Reuse<\/h2>

The second most important step in the waste hierarchy is how we can reuse things.<\/strong> Working with limited resources encourages us to search and create new ways of doing things and gets the creative juices flowing. There are a lot of things, that lose their value over time, being produced and consumed around us, but old things can be given new life. And when you create something then do it in a way, that it would last.\u00a0<\/p>

Scraps, second-hand items and defective product<\/strong><\/p>

We use as many scraps, second-hand things and defective products as possible for decorations and art objects and in creating different areas. For example, in 2017 we built multiple festival bars out of reed and crooked scraps from sawmills and the booths in the food area are made out of defected plywood. We also try to use paint leftovers from production and test colours whenever possible. All the furniture that is used during the festival is also rounded up from all over the place and restored. Our art team works all year to find and gather up materials and things that are suitable for reusing, and to give them a fresh new look.<\/p>

Sustainable design<\/strong><\/p>

All the bars, benches, tables, etc. are designed and built by our team and artists who work with us. The purpose is to create designs that are permanent and suitable to the environment. The festival stages are also built by us. In 2019 we built a whole street worth of booths for the food area and a rental point and dishwashing cart for the tableware. All the things that can\u2019t handle the weather in autumn and winter will be disassembled and stored after the festival to be used again next year.<\/p>

Durable decorations and art<\/strong><\/p>

The one very important condition for the art that is created for the festival, is that it\u2019s not made for one time only. This applies to both the decorations made by our own team and to all the creations and art that come from outside sources. The works must be durable, reusable and weatherproof and natural materials should be used. After the event all the decorations and art will be stored at our deco-storage for next year.<\/p>

Signs<\/strong><\/p>

All the signs at the festival are hand-painted by our artists every year on the same reusable wooden placards collected from the local waste station at Maasi in 2017. Right now, there\u2019s about 100 of those.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
